A Dozen Sci-Fi Sequels We Want

From IGN
Does Independence Day need a sequel after 16 years? Producer Dean Devlin seems to think so, mooting one alongside a follow-up to the original Stargate movie. The temptation though is always to leave these things alone, unsullied by a follow-up that would inevitably fail to rebottle lightning. Some movies though remain begging for that lingering question mark to be answered, left hanging for sequels that never happened. And some movies, even those perfectly wrapped-up-with-a-bow, are so good that a little part of you can’t help but wonder – much like a idea-strapped studio exec that’s run out of high-concepts – what if?

Gears of War: Judgment Release Date

In what is a surprising move, the next Gear of War game has a release date of March 19th 2013. Now March is the new Christmas period, between gears and crysis and tomb raider and dead space.. its a crowded month. Check out the press release below.

“Judgment” introduces fans to events before the “Gears of War” trilogy to experience a heart-pounding new campaign and new, adrenaline-fueled multiplayer modes like OverRun

Before the rise of the Lambent, the sinking of Jacinto or the detonation of the Lightmass bomb, there was Emergence Day – when the Locust horde burst from the ground and set Sera on a path toward near annihilation. Launching March 19, 2013 for $59.99 (US), “Gears of War: Judgment” brings players back to the terrifying aftermath of E-Day, before the events of the “Gears” trilogy, for the most intense and challenging “Gears” game yet.

Developed exclusively for Xbox 360 by Epic Games and People Can Fly, “Gears of War: Judgment” delivers a riveting campaign featuring new characters, weapons and enemies, and new multiplayer experiences like OverRun, an all-new class-based mode that combines elements of the acclaimed Horde and Beast modes pioneered in previous “Gears” games.

Master the Basics of OverRun and Charge into Action on “Island”

Fans can get ahead of the game and learn the essentials of OverRun’s thrilling new class-based competitive gameplay through the OverRun tutorial video released today. Narrated by Damon Baird, players will see the required skills they need to defend as a COG or attack as a Locust and engage in adrenaline-pumping skirmishes unlike anything “Gears” fans have experienced before.

Following the debut of OverRun at E3 2012 on the “Rooftops” map, today the all-new “Island” map was revealed.

ISLAND – Island takes place on an archipelago of islands off the coast of Halvo Bay, which serves as a supply and refueling depot that feeds the larger military machine along the coast.  The individual islands are connected by a series of bridges and tunnels, forming a network of unknown size and security.  This is restricted territory, and civilians are not permitted on, or even near, any of the islands.

Tom Bissell and Rob Auten Revealed as “Gears of War: Judgment” writers

Written by Tom Bissell (journalist and author of “Extra Lives”) and Rob Auten, “Gears of War: Judgment” follows Kilo Squad, led by fan-favorite characters Damon Baird and Augustus “The Cole Train” Cole, as they defy orders and attempt to rescue the city of Halvo Bay from destruction at the hands of the Locust onslaught.

The “Gears of War” series is one of the most popular franchises in Xbox history, having sold more than 18 million games worldwide, and spawning New York Times-bestselling novels, toys, collectibles, graphic novels, and more. Injustice: Gods Among Us preview - Nightwing, Cyborg

Along with the fresh faces in the roster, Superman’s Fortress of Solitude was available alongside the previously-previewed Batcave. If you’re thus far unfamiliar with the game mechanics, the main thing you need to know is that stage selection plays a huge part in how your battle will unfold. With interactive objects scattered through each level, and multiple tiers to batter your opponent into, there’s so much going on in the background that you’ll have to play as close attention to your surroundings as you do your enemy. Fail to do so, and you might be on the losing side of a one-way trip through a concrete floor or inter-dimensional glass.

Activision Blizzard's Suitors Could Include Microsoft, Time Warner

We've previously reported that Vivendi is looking to sell its majority stake in Activision Blizzard, valued at up to $10 billion. And now we have an idea of who precisely might be interested in buying.
Reuters has rounded up the list of possible buyers and the most arresting one for gamers is Microsoft. The appeal to the House of Xbox in owning franchises like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft is obvious. Some theorize that it's simply too busy building consoles to buy Activision Blizzard lock stock and barrel, but it has the money and certainly the interest.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Goes Free-To-Play Up To Level 15

Star Wars: The Old Republic got great reviews and was seen by many as a worthy successor to BioWare's beloved Knights of the Old Republic. But it's suffered declining subscriber numbers and had to deal with layoffs. Now they're trying to reverse the trend with free play… up to a point.
If you haven't yet tried the game, you'll now be able to play it up to level 15 completely free and with no time limit. If you tried the game through one of the previous free weekend trials or using a referral from a friend, the offer will also be open to you. Origin Worlds will be open as well as Flashpoints and PvP zones.

Toronto's Jose Bautista Got a PS3 Made of Baseball Bat Wood from Sony

Even i have to admit, this is pretty win
A cover athlete for Sony's MLB 12: The Show got an awesome thank you gift from Sony that would make any sports gamer pass out on sight.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista who appears on the Canadian cover of the PS3 pro-baseball simulator received a full video game set from Sony, complete with a wood covered Ps3 case mod in a custom made baseball themed case, according to an interview with ESPN's Playbook.

Nintendo's Wii U Will Get EA Sports Titles

Nintendo's E3 press conference for the Wii U was missing a lot of things, particularly some third party titles from EA Sports. Now the publisher behind Madden NFL 13 and NHL 13 will correct this with a special open house that will unveil several new titles for Nintendo's new console.
EA Sports announced an "EA Sports Open House" in July in a special invitation that will feature their first reveals of titles for the Wii U. The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday July 19.

Is Microsoft Trying to Integrate Kinect's Tech for Automobile Applications?

Some gamers and even developers like Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinksi might not think the Xbox 360's Kinect is advanced enough for hardcore gaming, but Microsoft might have loftier goals in mind for the hands-free technology other than just games.
Wired's Autotopia blog found a job listing on Microsoft's website for a software development engineer position that "hints" at finding ways to implement Microsoft's technology and software including the Kinect for "the next generation of in-car user interfaces."

Angry Birds Trilogy Coming to PS3, Xbox 360, and 3DS

First hinted at in E3, Activision will be bringing Angry Birds to consoles in a full retail game. But not all of the games will be coming.

The collection will include the original game, the Seasons level packs, and the version of the game released as a tie-in to the movie Rio. Angry Birds Space apparently has no place in this trilogy, presumably because Rovio hasn't ported it to every possible platform yet. No word on whether you'll be able to get the Eagle or use the various touchscreen controls.

Medal of Honor Warfighter Fire Team Multiplayer Gameplay Trailer

Check out the new trailer for MOH: Warfighter and below for the descriptions of all the special forces teams you can play as. Who will you choose?

MULTINATIONAL TIER 1 DESCRIPTIONS

SASR
The Australian Army’s SASR is the premier SOF unit of the Australian armed forces. While it shares its
name and motto with the British SAS, it differs in many ways. Its organizational structure maintains one
squadron fill the counter terrorism role while the two others fill the surveillance and reconnaissance roles.
The SASR have been highly active and effective in the war on terror, but are especially sought after for
their expertise and unique skills in desert reconnaissance and mobility.

SEAL
SEALs are the United States Navy’s principle Special Operations Force. Able to operate on SEa, Air, and
Land (from which the SEAL name is derived) they have lived up to this moniker during the global war on
terror with countless operations launched from all three of these environments. Most notably, from the
sea with the rescue of Captain Richard Phillips from Somali pirates in April 2009, by air with the
audacious direct action raid in Pakistan on May 1st, 2011, and on land with countless ground operations in
Iraq, Afghanistan and other hotspots around the world.

SFOD-D
SFOD-D is the US Army’s premier CT force able to operate worldwide in any environment. While not
much is known about “The Unit” which it is commonly referred as, it has been directly involved in every
conflict the United States has had since it was formed. Most widely known was its involvement in Somalia
in 1993 as part of Task Force Ranger which was portrayed in the book and subsequent film, “Black Hawk
Down”. The Unit has been extensively used in the war on terror, but specific details on operations have
remained classified.

OGA
Other Government Agencies or OGAs have been used extensively in the war on terror. OGA Operators
vary greatly in their skill sets, backgrounds, operational profiles and tasking which gives them a vast
amount of flexibility during their deployment. OGA Operators were the first boots on the ground in the war
on terror and will be the last boots off.

JTF2
Canada’s JTF2 or Joint Task Force 2 was stood up in 1993 to provide Canada with its own elite CT unit.
Tasked with direct action, special reconnaissance, PSD (Personal Security Detail), and other highly
specialized counter terrorist missions, the JTF2 has very quickly established itself as a world class unit
able to handle anything thrown at them. JTF2 Operators have been used numerous times in Afghanistan
and Iraq and were also present during the 2010 Winter games to provide and assist with security.

GROM
GROM unit is Poland’s elite CT force and has made a name for itself as a very motivated, aggressive and
hardened force comprised of rugged, extremely capable, and well trained individuals. Universally feared
by the enemy for their uncompromising intensity, they have established themselves as a force to be
reckoned with. Formed in 1990, the GROM have been involved extensively in Iraq and are currently
operating heavily in Afghanistan as part of operations in the Ghazni Province.

KSK
Germany’s KSK were activated in 1997 in an effort to create a CT force within the military separate from
Germany’s GSG 9, a highly trained counter terrorist police force similar to the United States FBI HRT.
The KSK are specialized in their tasking and this specialization carries into their organizational structure
with land insertions, Intel gathering, amphibious operations, mountain warfare, and sniper or
reconnaissance roles each being assigned to a separate platoon. The KSK have been involved in Afghanistan from the very beginning, where they have developed a solid reputation among the other
Special Operations units as an extremely capable and professional outfit.

SAS
Widely regarded as the first example of the modern Special Operations units, the British Special Air
Service Regiment, or SAS as it is more commonly known, was created in 1947 after a brief reorganization
following WWII. The SAS has a long and storied history of success, with arguably the highest profile
mission being the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980 and the subsequent rescue of 26 hostages, also known
as Operation Nimrod. The raid to rescue the hostages and secure the embassy took place in broad
daylight while televised on national TV and was “an almost unqualified success” on all counts.

UDT
South Korea’s ROKN UDT/SEALs are heavily influenced by the U.S. Navy SEALs and cross train
together several times a year. They specialize in VBSS, maritime interdiction, and counter terrorist
operations. Their most notable operation to date was the successful rescue in January 2011 of a freighter
hijacked by Somali pirates where eight pirates were killed and all 21 crew members were freed.

FSK
Norway’s FSK has a wartime tasking to gather Intel, identify enemy activity, carry out direct action
missions against critical targets, and preform hostage rescue missions. The FSK has been active in
Afghanistan since the very beginning, where it took part in Operation Anaconda, the largest ground
operation of the Afghan campaign in the war on terror.

SOG
The Swedish SOG is a relatively new unit formed last year by combining the Swedish SSG and the SIG.
The SSG were involved in Afghanistan were they performed special reconnaissance mainly in the north
operating with an extremely small signature. By combining the two units, each with a different broad set of
skills, the newly formed Swedish SOG will be a multifaceted CT force that will utilize its extremely
proficient, clever and adept Operators to continue to solve problems well beyond enemy lines.

Spetsnaz
Russia’s Spetsnaz “Alfa” Group is a special purpose CT force created in 1974. Although operational
details are not well known, they are a Russia’s most elite military unit and were used extensively in
Chechnya where they hammered Chechen fighters invoking great fear among them.

The best pocket camera ever made: Sony’s Cyber-shot RX100 lands in Australia‏

The best pocket camera ever made: Sony’s Cyber-shot RX100 lands in Australia
·         World’s First 1.0-inch type 20.2 MP Exmor CMOS Sensor
    • Ultra-bright F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T* Fixed Lens to Deliver Outstanding Picture Quality Picture Quality

Sydney, 11 July 2012 – Touted by the New York Times as the best pocket camera ever made, Sony’s new premium compact camera, the Cyber-shot DSC-RX100, lands in Australia today. Delivering photo quality never seen before from a camera this small, the Cyber-shot RX100 has a 1.0 inch sensor – the biggest ever for a ‘pocketable’ zoom camera.

Striking the ultimate balance of form and function, the stylish, aluminium-built RX100 camera inherits many advanced imaging features from Sony’s α (“Alpha”) range of A-mount and E-mount cameras, delivering beautiful still images, crisp full HD videos and a level of manual control and creativity unmatched by any other camera of its size.

“The RX100 is the perfect mix of photographic technology and simple eye catching design and has received huge praise for its stunning image quality. It is ideal for travel, portraits or street photography, delivering impressive results in a variety of lighting conditions with an intuitive, customisable control interface,” said Anthony Moy, Product Manager for Digital Still Cameras at Sony Australia.

“It’s a perfect step-up model for point-and-shoot users not interested in larger DSLR or compact system cameras, and also an outstanding choice for enthusiasts or professionals who may already own a large DSLR and are looking for a premium, pocket-sized ‘all-in-one’ second camera.”

At the heart of the Cyber-shot RX100 is the world’s first 1.0-inch type Exmor® CMOS sensor with a resolution of 20.2 effective megapixels. Specially developed by Sony, the sensor has an area that’s approximately four times larger than the 1/2.3-type sensors in traditional point-and-shoot cameras. The sensor’s larger area takes in more light, resulting in beautiful, detail-packed images and Full HD movie clips with very low noise.

The larger sensor is partnered with an exceptionally bright Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* fixed lens with 3.6x optical zoom range. In contrast to standard point-and-shoot cameras, it has a wide F1.8 maximum aperture to let in additional light and complement the resolving power of the larger sensor.

Similar to high-performance DSLR optics, the lens features seven-bladed circular aperture. This makes it easy to produce images with subjects in sharp focus against a smoothly-blurred, beautifully defocused background. The lens also features an Advanced Aspherical (AA) lens element that contributes to the camera’s extremely compact dimensions without sacrificing optical zoom performance or resolution.

Newly optimised to complement the 1.0-inch type sensor and lens, the camera’s powerful BIONZ® image processor maximises shooting response times while helping assure exceptionally clean, natural images. It also extends sensitivity right up to ISO 25600 (using Multi Frame Noise Reduction), allowing for exceptionally clear handheld images in low light conditions. To capture fast-moving subjects, the RX100 camera can also shoot at up to 10 frames per second (in full resolution) and has high-speed autofocus that locks onto a subject in as quickly as 0.13 seconds (depends on scene and lighting conditions).

The new RX100 camera features a high-resolution 3-inch 1,229k dot Xtra Fine LCD™ display and also adds a new feature: WhiteMagic™ technology. This uses additional white pixels to boost screen brightness, allowing users to see subtle details and tones on the screen in all types of shooting environments, including outdoors in bright sunlight.

For making manual adjustments while shooting both still images and movies, the new camera has a smooth control ring around the lens body, which can be used to alter exposure, zoom, creative picture effects and a variety of other customisable functions. Additionally, frequently used functions can be assigned to the Fn (function) button for instant access, and the Memory Recall feature can store up to three groups of customised shooting settings based on user preference.

Similar to a DSLR-style interface, there’s a choice of auto and manual focus modes on the Cyber-shot RX100 camera for enhanced image control. For those that prefer focusing manually, MF Assist magnifies images to simplify fine adjustments, and there’s also a pro-style peaking function that highlights sharply-focused areas of the image on screen.

The RX100 camera offers a generous choice of artistic options to expand creative shooting possibilities. It includes the option for six different creative styles and a variety of popular picture effects including Toy Camera, Partial Colour, HDR Painting and several others, most of which can be previewed directly on screen before shooting.

The new Cyber-shot features Auto Portrait Framing – a feature found on Sony’s latest α range of A-mount and E-mount cameras -- making it simple to create sharp, perfectly framed portraits. This unique feature automatically detects faces in a scene, crops the picture accordingly creates a tighter, pro-style composition at full resolution. Both the original and cropped photo are saved for review.

New accessories include a spare battery, dedicated carrying case and a battery charger designed to complement to the new camera.

People like this make the world a sad place to live in...

You know that person who told you Santa Clause does not exist, well 4 students have just done the same for the world of batman fans.
From Ninemsn
Batman could fly, but he wouldn't survive the landing because his wingspan is too short, according to researchers.
Four students from the University of Leicester have calculated that the superhero's method of using his cape to glide from tall buildings would result in him hitting the ground at life-threatening speeds.
In the film Batman Begins, the caped crusader, played by actor Christian Bale, wears a cape that becomes rigid when a current is passed through it, allowing him to glide over Gotham City in a similar manner to a base jumper in a wing suit.
But after doing the maths, the students claim Batman would be lucky to survive on reaching the ground and advised he use a parachute the next time he is out fighting crime.
David Marshall, Tom Hands, Ian Griffiths and Gareth Douglas found that the wingspan of Batman's cape - at 4.7 metres - is around half that used by a hang glider.

Photos: Ron Perlman Puts On Hellboy Make-Up Once More
During the making of both "Hellboy" movies, Ron Perlman commented that he hated the long make-up process that turned him into the title character. And even though the third "Hellboy" film will likely never happen, Perlman got in the make-up chairone more timeto reprise the role.

The actor did this after the Make-A-Wish foundation got in touch with him and told himthe storyof a little sick boy, named Zachary, whose wish was to meet Hellboy. Perlman was more than happy to help out, and with the use of a make-up team, he dressed up as Hellboy and went to meet Zachary.

The two spent a few hours together, and then it was Zachary's turn to be turned into Hellboy. Check out all thephotosof the meeting below.
