SAMURAI PIZZA CATS Hits DVD this October

Join Speedy Cerviche, Guido Anchovy, and Polly Esther at Pizza Cats, the most popular place in Little Tokyo. But the pizza take out joint is merely a front for their true job. A crime fighting secret ninja trio! Led by Big Al Dente, the Pizza Cats are tasked with keeping the scheming Seymour "The Big" Cheese and his evil Crow Ninjas, Jerry Atric and Bad Bird, from taking over Little Tokyo from the dimwitted Emperor Fred.

The Pizza Cats are backed up by a Rescue Team, four other cats with their own restaurant who spring into action to help them out whenever they hear the rescue bell. The weapons of the Rescue Team can combine to form super weapons! And they will need them when evil undoubtedly shows up in every episode. Usually in the form of a gigantic monster-like robot used by the Big Cheese who has his mind set on controlling Little Tokyo!

Total War Rome II - MAxi Geek Review

The Total War series is known for being a little on the punishing side of things, but if you take the time to learn the game you are rewarded with an experience unlike any other. Rome II takes that fact to heart, that if you know the game you will be granted an amazing time. But is that enough?

Gameplay

So, when you get down to brass tacks, Rome II is very much part RTS and part Turn based games. With the RTS parts taking place in the battles, and the Turn based when you’re at the world map level. Each part has a pro and a con that don’t hurt the game, but if addressed could have made it so much better.
When viewing the world map, you are shown the Italian country side, with various towns and cities around as well. Looking at the mini map, you can see which regions are led by which faction, and while you do get a sense of this when you approach the border for your lands, you need to check the mini map to see if others have changed. Having this feature outside of the main view is a little distracting, but it does not break the game.

Controlling the camera of the RTS portion of the game is a little confusing to begin with, but after almost no time at all it becomes second nature. However, playing on multiscreen does pose a slight problem as there are no boundaries for the mouse to stop, which loses your ability to use the sides of the screen. Controlling multiple units is easy, using the common word, or text document shortcuts, and getting the units to move is just like other RTS games, which is good.

As this was my first ever play with the Total War Series, I was impressed at the simplicity of the unit controls, however there are so many facets to the gameplay, including micro army management, city reconstruction, upgrading cities, units and your generals that the game does a pretty bad job of explain most of it. There are in depth tutorials in there, however they are not presented at the time of each introduction to a new element. You are presented with a synopsis of each function, but anything other than that requires you to look it up yourself.

There was one moment, where I was feeling quite cocky and thought that I would be able to swamp the opposing army, so I sent some units to the right, some to the left and the bulk up the middle. However, the Fog of War kicked in and I was shown the error of my decision. The opposing army was massive. Thankfully, I was able to split some horse units away and send them around the back and managed to take the city, but it was that moment that I realized I can’t take this game lightly.

Presentation

Graphics in any RTS to me have always been hit or miss. Sadly in Rome II they are both. In the overview map, the graphics are quite beautiful, with lots of detail on the cities and world map. It is in the battle maps that the graphics suffer. And I know what you’re thinking, who really cares. Looking at the battle from the highest point and you will see some fine textures and some great lighting effects, however zooming all the way in shows some spotty textures as well as some really bad animations, in that they are almost identical between the armies.

Of course, this does not distract from the overall gameplay, but as you can zoom all the way down to the battlegrounds, it’s a real shame that they did not put more effort into that part of the presentation. The detail on the actual characters is quite plentiful, but again suffers when you’re watching them fight.

Thankfully the sounds fares a lot better than the graphics, and should you have a very nice sound system, zooming all the way in, allows you the chance to hear the battle raging all around as if you were right there. The world effects are quite great, in one level the storm raged and the sound of the rain and thunder sound great, and the whole thing is brought to life by the advice and shouts of your advisers and generals. However a downside to that is all the voices are British. And while that’s not a complaint on the voice of the British people, it does irk me that in almost all of the historical games the people are British.

Overall

Is this game worth your time… Yes. Without a doubt this game is worth it whether you’re like me in hat you don’t play RTS games, or you do and you’re looking for the new thing. While playing it I was finding surprising moments that made me smile, and that’s the point of a good game.

SimCity - Cities of Tomorrow Expansion Coming November 14th

Sydney, Australia – September 20, 2013 – Bring the cities of today into the world of tomorrow. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that the SimCity™ Cities of Tomorrow* expansion pack is currently in development for Mac and PC and will be arriving November 14. Built upon the foundation of the ultimate city building simulation that has more than 2 million players worldwide, SimCity Cities of Tomorrow gives players the ability to transform their cities as they take them on a journey 50 years into the future. Using new technologies and experimental urban planning techniques, mayors will shape the destinies of their cities, thriving in a utopia of clean technologies, or a dystopia of hyper-commercialism.

“Will the world of tomorrow be a utopia powered by clean energy or an industrial society consumed by mass commercialism?” said Patrick Buechner, General Manager, Maxis Emeryville. “With SimCity Cities of Tomorrow, players can build the future as they imagine it. Transport your Sims on MagLev, power your cities with fusion reactors or tidal wave generators, manufacture a legion of drones to serve your Sims and build massive MegaTowers that dwarf modern skyscrapers. We’re giving you plausible technologies to take your cities onto a journey 50 years into the future. What will you create?”

SimCity Cities of Tomorrow gives players an entirely new way to dream about their city of the future. New regions, new future technology, new city specializations and new transportation methods will transform the way that cities take shape and evolve. Will they create a utopian society underpinned by clean technology under the auspices of the Academy, or encourage giant corporation OmegaCo to strip-mine natural resources and pollute in the name of feeding consumerism? For the first time in the history of the franchise, cities can be built vertically with enormous multi-zone MegaTowers that extend high into the sky and dwarf the rest of the city. Education and research will help players discover new technologies that make their cities less polluted, less reliant on natural resources, managed day-to-day by service drones and fueled by green energy. As the population increases, Sims will live, work, and play closer together. When players have finished deciding whether they want their Sims to live together in harmony, or as members of an exploited workforce, they can rain chaos upon them by unleashing an all-new disaster exclusive to this expansion pack.

The SimCity base game is available now on Mac and PC and developed by Maxis. SimCity is cross-platform compatible, so all players play together across the same servers. Players can play both versions with the same Origin account, allowing them to seamlessly continue their cities, achievements and leaderboard progress across the Mac and PC. Since its launch in March, SimCity has had seven major game updates that have made upgrades to the core simulation and provided game content and features at no additional charge.

SimCity Cities of Tomorrow will be available for Mac and PC and is not yet rated for the OFLC. Pre-orders will begin soon at www.simcity.com/en_AU/tomorrow

Wii Sports Club - Coming Soon to Nintendo eShop

The five beloved sports from the original Wii Sports – bowling, tennis, baseball, boxing and golf – are making a dramatic and competitive return on Wii U. The games are being released individually as downloads on Nintendo eShop featuring HD graphics, enhanced controls via Wii MotionPlus technology, as well as a much-requested online multiplayer versus mode, so users with broadband Internet access can face off against competitors online. And that’s where the “Club” part of Wii Sports Club comes into play. Players will be registered to regional clubs and will be able to interact with one another via Miiverse during matches. People will be able to play casually against members of their own club, or take on members of rival clubs to increase their club rankings.

Tennis and Bowling will be the first two sports available from Nintendo eShop on 7th November, with Boxing, Baseball and Golf scheduled to launch in the months ahead. Wii U owners who download Wii Sports Club will get a trial pass that will let them play any available games for a 24-hour period from when the Wii Sports Club game is started. Once the trial period ends, players can purchase a Day Pass on Nintendo eShop for £1.79 to play all available sports for a 24-hour period, or can buy permanent access to individual sports for £8.99 each.

Local pricing has yet to be announced.

DuckTales REmastered gets a retail release

No word on a local release yet

It’s a Duck Blur! Capcom is excited to share the quack-tastic news that a disc-based version of DuckTales: Remastered will be hitting retail store shelves across North America on November 12. Currently available as a digital download through Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Nintendo eShop and PC, DuckTales: Remastered will offer an all-new $19.99 disc-based alternative to players on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U.

Originally released in 1989 on the Nintendo Entertainment System , DuckTales was widely acknowledged as one of the generation’s seminal platform titles. DuckTales: Remastered once again follows the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his nephews – Huey, Dewey and Louie, as they explore different themed worlds on their search for five legendary treasures.

The development team at WayForward have taken the levels and layout from the original release and expanded on them to significantly enhance the gameplay experience; but where this update truly impresses is its graphics and sound. All of the visuals from the 8-bit game have been beautifully re-created as hand-drawn and animated sprites, across a backdrop of luscious, re-envisioned level backgrounds. Furthermore, original Disney Character Voices talent, including some from the cartoon TV series, bring in-game characters to life with charm and wit, while the classic melodies of the original soundtrack are given a modern twist.

Iron Man 3 - Review

So in response to Maxi Geek's Iron Man 3 (IR3) giveaway I figured that it would be appropriate to review the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man 3, currently out on BluRay and DVD

Now I have seen IR3 in the theatre and at home on BluRay (bought it day one....woohoo) and neither time has it disappointed. Now I know some die hard comic fans will disagree with my assessment but hey it is my review suck it up.

Having loved the first two movies and The Avengers. This movie was concern for me as a fan seeing how well previous Iron Man films and The Avengers had done. And this film was presented by a new director ,Shane Black. Too many variables for failure but that being said I just loved it.

But let's face it the director does not make the whole movie.  You do need the actors the team up and give you a heck of s performance and this cast gels so well all the time.

Robert Downey Jr plays Tony Stark so perfectly. I hope he agrees to always play the role. It is like Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine you can not see anyone else in the suit now. I love how he plays Tony as this talking freight train that doesn't stop. You half expect him to start snapping his fingers before each scene and pronounce 'Look at me I am talking now'.

Gwyneth Paltrow again plays Pepper Potts with charm and grace peppered with the right amount of smart Alec wit. And with RDJ the two have great chemistry they need to make more movies together. Come on directors and writers out there get on it. And this round we got to watch her really kick butt. No spoilers just wow We need a Paltrow action movie.

Don Cheadle has always impressed me as an actor and he again made me smile. He gave a wonderful performance in this movie. And in my opinion had some of the best one-liners in the whole film. How can you not like this guy. And with each performance he plays less sidekick and more a partner to Iron Man.

Jon Favreau has directed two incredible Iron Man movies and played Tony's bodyguard and friend Happy Hogan. In IR2 Happy was a little more fleshed out but this time I liked that Jon stepped out of the director's chair and even gave Happy more dimension.

And let us not forget one of our two new villains, Aldrich Killian, played by Guy Pearce. He was the perfect mix of intelligence, creepy and smarmy to be the perfect villain. Would love to see the character return somehow. Well it is a comic movie so can never tell when a bad guy is going to pop his head up again. And as a personal request Guy play more villains.

And, of course, The Mandarin played by Sir Ben Kingsley. Ok without giving out spoilers I know some people will disagree seeing as how the presentation of one of the main bad guys turned out completely opposite of the comic but as much as we comic fans want an 100% true to story comic movie we are never going to get it. So my response is open your mind to the new version. And I think the solution offered here with the Mandarin was great solution. And with Sir Ben Kingsley playing the role it was pulled off flawlessly.

In recap great sequel, fun and entertaining movie, great cast and another chapter in a growing franchise. Go buy (or try and win) a copy today.

So where is this franchise going next? No idea but it will be fun to see how it all goes.
